Welcome to Bryan’s American Grille

A family-friendly, nostalgic tavern in the heart of Downers Grove. When we took over this neighborhood spot, our vision was simple; create a warm, welcoming place where families, friends, and food lovers can gather around meals made with care and ingredients we truly believe in!

Before we arrived, this tavern was lovingly built by Bryan Bentley, who spent ten years pouring his heart, soul, and hard work into creating a place the community could count on. This restaurant was his pride and joy — part of his life and his identity. His dedication is the foundation of everything this place is today.

When Bryan made the bittersweet decision to retire in September 2025, he entrusted us with something deeply meaningful. We honor his legacy every day by caring for this place with the same respect, passion, and love he gave it. We’re grateful for the years he invested, the community he nurtured, and the chance to carry his torch into a new chapter.

As long-time residents, parents, and passionate food lovers, we wanted to share the kind of cooking we serve at home. We’ve always believed that what you feed people matters — and that belief guides every choice we make. From scratch cooking and thoughtful sourcing to healthier ingredients, almost everything here is made in-house, cooked in zero seed oils, and crafted with unbleached flour, organic items, and carefully selected produce and proteins.

Our fries are cooked the old-fashioned way — in beef tallow — and our spirits and well drinks are proudly sourced from Almighty Spirits. We’ve added organic and glyphosate-free beer, organic wines, healthier entrées, a kids’ menu with wholesome options, and a full list of mocktails and non-alcoholic beers so everyone feels welcome at our table.

Our promise has always been simple: If we wouldn’t feed it to our children, we wouldn’t feed it to our community. The food world has changed a lot, but we believe a small neighborhood bar and grill can still make a big difference — with honest ingredients, warm hospitality, and a space filled with good energy.
